Moving Forward Regardless of All That is Going On Around Us

Every time you are tempted to react
in the same old way,
ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past
or a pioneer of the future.
– Deepak Chopra

I know I want to be a pioneer of the future and not be a prisoner of the past or even a captive of the now! We are living in a time of uproar, fomenting and unrest in our Country and World. I sometimes find myself in dither of temper, rage and despair. It is hard to face all the political intrigue and still have a peaceful center life.

Whatever you feel, you become.
It is your responsibility.
– Osho

Yet, I know deep inside how I react affects not only my own internal peace and joy it affects those around me and that spreads out like waves in the ocean. What I feel and how I react can be a force for peace or a force for more upset and reaction to what is going on in the World. It is hard to be both a responsible citizen and an enlightened human being. When living in difficult times, I know that for me and probably for you, when I can take a breath, recenter myself and do those things that I love, I can be more effective both as a citizen and as a human being.

When you love,
whatever you do
is because you want to do it.
It becomes a pleasure,
it’s like a game,
and you have fun with it.
When you love,
you don’t expect something to happen;
whatever happens is okay,
and hardly anything disappoints you.
– Don Miguel Ruiz

In the photo above you can see an old-fashioned doily, a beautiful wall hanging or if you hang it in a window a Sun Catcher. That is my favorite way to enjoy the doilies I crochet. I have made many of these in a variety of colors and moods. The first time I made one of these and hung it in a window I was blown away with the beauty. It was such a delight to see the play of light from outside my home to the inside of my home. However, like all the things I crochet I’m not much interested in them other than observing the beauty after I’m finished making it. What I discovered is that in the making of these round beauties, I was able to keep myself centered and whole during the creation process round and round and round. Amazingly, I also discovered, once the doily is hanging in a window it becomes a meditative device–again centering me.

“At the center of your being
you have the answer;
you know who you are
and you know what you want.”
Lao Tzu

That’s Ipseity—the center of your being, your sacred core. This is how you can find peace and joy and love in spite of all that is going on around you. No, you don’t have to crochet and make sun catchers but when you find the thing or things that bring you peace, comfort and wholeness you can reside in the center of your sacred core, your Ipseity. Find that place and be who you really are then coping with the maelstroms around you becomes not only possible but spreads your being out in wonderful ways helping all around you.

It ain’t what they call you,
it’s what you answer to.
